Cervical Spine Research Society names Dr. Alan S. Hilibrand president

The Cervical Spine Research Society elected new leadership for 2014 to 2015, according to an AAOS Now report.

The new president is Alan S. Hilibrand, MD, who is also The Joseph and Marie Field Professor of Spinal Surgery and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs and Faculty Department at Jefferson Medical College / The Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. He is Co-Chief of Spine Surgery, Director of Orthopaedic Medical Education and Professor of Neurological Surgery at Jefferson Medical College / The Rothman Institute as well. He is also the chair of the AAOS communications cabinet.

 

He earned his medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan Hospitals. His additional training includes a spine and spinal cord injury fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

 

Bruce V. Darden II, MD, took his place as past-president. Additional board officers are:

 

• Robert F. Heary, MD — president-elect
• Darrel S. Brodke, MD — vice president
• Christopher I. Shaffrey, MD — treasurer
