Mr. Rose suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee and Dr. Cole plans to perform surgery when the swelling is reduced—no later than Friday afternoon, according to the report.

Dr. Cole performed two previous knee surgeries for Mr. Rose, who has missed several games over the past two years due to injuries. While the first two surgeries took several months for recovery, this most recent procedure could put Mr. Rose back into play with a few weeks left in the regular season.

Dr. Cole is the team physician for the Chicago Bulls and co-team physician for the Chicago White Sox.
