The survey polled 1,026 medical students in the United States. The survey was conducted online during July 2013.
When asked why they may avoid solo or partnership practices, respondents reported:
• Concern with balancing work and personal life — 51 percent
• Dissatisfaction with training in billing and coding — 41 percent
• Dissatisfaction with training in practice management — 37 percent
• Unwillingness to deal with lawsuits or malpractice insurance premiums — 17 percent
