Christopher I. Shaffrey, MD, FACS (University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville). Dr. Shaffrey is spine division director and the John A. Jane Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He has research interests in multi-center outcome research studies of adult scoliosis, spinal trauma and tumors.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Shaffrey serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Neurosurgery and Journal of Spinal Disorders. He is also a reviewer for Spine and The Spine Journal. He has also won several awards for his clinical practice and was the chair for the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves.
He also serves on the Morbidity and Mortality Committee Chair for the Scoliosis Research Society.
Dr. Shaffrey earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia Medical Center. His additional training includes a fellowship in pediatric and adult spinal surgery at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
