Eugene Carragee, MD (Stanford Hospital & Clinics, Stanford, Calif.). Dr. Carragee is the chief of spine surgery at Stanford Hospitals & Clinics, director of the Orthopedic Spine Center at Stanford and the medical director of service quality. He has experience as a spine consultant for NCAA teams and Stanford University.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Carragee participates in research and was at the forefront of several studies examining complications with recombinant bone morphgenetic protein use. He has earned the Leon Witlse Award from the North American Spine Society and Volvo Clinical Research Award from the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine.
Dr. Carragee is also the editor-in-chief of The Spine Journal and a medical officer in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He earned his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency. His additional training includes a fellowship at the University of Hong Kong in China.
