James Kang, MD (McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Pittsburgh). Dr. Kang is the UPMC Endowed Chair in Orthopedic Spine Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is also a tenured professor in the department of orthopedic surgery and neurological surgery as well as vice chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery and director of the Ferguson Laboratory and Musculoskeletal Research Center.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Kang serves as he associate co-director of the UPMC Western Pennsylvania Regional Spinal Cord Injury System. Dr. Kang has many research interests, including robotics applications and spinal biomechanical research. He also examines gene therapy toward healing and preventing intervertebral disc degeneration.
Dr. Kang earned his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh. His additional training includes a spine surgery fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
