Andrew Sama, MD (Hospital for Special Surgery, New York City).
Dr. Sama is fellowship director of the spinal surgical service for Hospital for Special Surgery and an associate professor of clinical surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City. He is also involved in resident and fellowship teaching curriculum and mentors medical students throughout
the year.
He has a clinical interest in traumatic, degenerative and deformity-related spinal disorders and basic science research interest in biology and biomechanics related to spinal fusion and fusion alternatives. He’s received several grants, including from the National Institutes of Health, for his research. In addition to
his clinical practice, Dr. Sama is on the editorial board for the
Current Reviews in Musculoskeletal Medicine and serves as a reviewer for
Spine and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research.
Dr. Sama earned his medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Medical Center. His additional training includes a spine and deformities fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical College.
