Dr. Hawkins was co-founder of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo. — now called The Steadman Clinic. He moved his practice to South Carolina in 2004, which became the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas. He is program director for the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas Fellowship Program and chairman of the Orthopaedic Research Foundation of the Carolinas.
Early in his career, Dr. Hawkins became a founding member of the Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons organization, where he served as president. He is also past president of the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine and former director of the Sports Medicine Council of Canada. He is a team physician for the Colorado Rockies.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hawkins published over 200 articles and videotapes and presented around 500 pieces at national and international meetings.
