New Mexico had the highest percentage of active physicians aged 60 years or older in 2012, according to the “2013 State Physician Workforce Data Book” released by Association of American Medical Colleges’ Center for Workforce Studies.

Data for the following statistics was taken from the American Medical Association Physician Masterfile.

 

Here are the top five states with the highest percentages of active physicians 60 years or older in 2012, according to the report:

 

•    New Mexico — 33.3 percent
•    California — 31.5 percent
•    Montana — 31.2 percent
•    Maine — 30.5 percent
•    Hawaii — 30.5 percent
