4 Statistics on Female Physicians in the U.S. by Age Group

Most actively licensed female physicians in the U.S. were younger than 40 years in 2012, according to “A Census of Actively Licensed Physicians in the United States, 2012” published in the Journal of Medical Regulation.

The report includes data received from state medical boards in 2012 by the Federation of State Medical Boards. The following data was taken from the 2012 FSMB Census of Licensed Physicians.

 
Here are the percentages of female physicians in 2012, by age group:

 

•    Younger than 40 years — 33.6 percent
•    40 to 49 years — 30.3 percent
•    50 to 59 years — 22.2 percent
•    Older than 60 years — 12 percent
