Dr. Pickering, a physician with Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, performs the hip replacement using the hana table, which allows surgeons to reach a patient’s hip socket without detaching hip or thigh muscles and tendons

This is possible by taking an anterior approach through which a 3-4 inch incision is made on the upper part of the thigh over the hip and then muscles are pushed aside, rather than split or detached, provide access to the hip.

The services are offered through the joint replacement program at Baptist Medical Center.
