Most orthopedic surgeons were not in an accountable care organization in 2013 but planned to join one in the coming year, according to the Medscape’s 2013 Orthopedist Compensation Report.

The report is based on responses from nearly 22,000 physicians.

 

Here are four statistics on orthopedist participation in various payment models, according to the report:

 

•    Concierge practice — 2 percent
•    Cash-only — 2 percent
•    ACO — 9 percent
•    Not in an ACO but plan to be in the coming year — 13 percent
