However, the organization has concerns about recent reports of offsets being considered that were not agreed to in a bipartisan, bicameral fashion.
“A permanent fix to the SGR formula is essential in ensuring Medicare’s solvency and improving care delivery,” said AAOS President Joshua J. Jacobs, MD, in the organization’s news release. “AAOS implores Congress to find an offset for H.R. 4015/S. 2000 that would provide a real opportunity to see this legislation enacted.”
The legislation would replace the current SGR formula with a system focused on quality, value and accountability, according to the statement. The current SGR patch expires at the end of the month and if not fixed, there will be a 24 percent across-the-board cut to physician payments.
