Top Five PA Specialties

 

Family medicine was the primary specialty of a majority of clinically practicing physician assistants, according to an American Academy of Physician Assistants fact sheet.

The data for the fact sheet was taken from the 2010 AAPA Census. According to the fact sheet, there were 83,600 PAs in 2010.

 

Here are the top five specialties of physician assistants in 2010:

 

•    Family medicine — 24.8 percent
•    Surgical subspecialties — 23.2 percent
•    Emergency medicine — 10.9 percent
•    Internal medicine subspecialites — 10.3 percent
•    General internal medicine — 4.8 percent
