Dr. Ziya Gokaslan to Translate the LevelCheck Algorithm to Clinical Studies

Ziya Gokaslan, MD, and fellows in the department of neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore are translating the LevelCheck algorithm to clinical studies, according to a Johns Hopkins Medicine news release.

The LevelCheck algorithm uses high-speed computing to accurately overlay any information defined in a patient’s preoperative 3D CT scan on 2D x-ray images obtained in the operating room.

 

“We are beginning with a retrospective study to evaluate the accuracy of LevelCheck in real patient images,” said Dr. Gokaslan, “Future studies will measure the ability to improve localization of target vertebrae and benefit overall workflow.”

 

Dr. Gokaslan is vice chairman of neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
