Researchers examined 50 patients with AIS who underwent spinal fusion and were tracked through six months postoperatively. The researchers found:
• Pain declined with time
• 22 percent of patients experienced pain at or above baseline through six months postoperatively
• More baseline pain and anxiety predicted slower improvement
• Greater confidence in pain control ability predicted quicker declines in pain
