25 Hospitals With the Highest Value-Based Purchasing Scores

Penalties are often a focus of CMS’ Hospital Value-Based Purchasing program, but which hospitals have fared the best in the program?

In November, CMS announced 1,451 hospitals will be paid less this fiscal year, which started Oct. 1, and 778 of that total will lose more than 0.2 percent of their Medicare pay.

However, 1,231 hospitals will receive higher payments, and about 630 hospitals will receive a bonus of more than 0.2 percent.

A hospital’s individual score within the VBP program for FY 2014 focuses on three main areas: clinical process of care, patient experience of care and outcomes. Clinical process of care represents 45 percent of a hospital’s total performance score, whereas patient experience and outcomes account for 30 and 25 percent, respectively.
