Physician Services Spending Up 4%

Spending on physician services grew 4 percent in 2012, making this the third year in a row of growth, according to a Medscape report.

The Office of the Actuary at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released the report. While spending on physician services grew, overall healthcare spending growth was low and stable in 2012, and the gross domestic product increased at a 4.6 percent clip. Healthcare spending as a percentage of GDP decreased a tenth of a percent, according to the report.

 

Ten years earlier, in 2002, spending on physician services grew 8.4 percent.
