Stage 2 of the program will now start in 2015 and continue to 2016. Stage 3 will begin in 2017 for the providers who have spent two or more years at the lower level. The delay allows CMS and ONC to enhance patient engagement, interoperability and health information exchange requirements in Stage 2, according to the report.
The proposed rule for Stage 3 is scheduled for release in the fall of next year.
