AMA Sues to Stop FTC From Implementing ‘Red Flags Rule’

The AMA has filed a lawsuit to block the Federal Trade Commission from extending identity theft regulations to physicians, according to a release from the AMA.

On June 1, the FTC plans to extend its “red flags rule” for banks, credit card companies and mortgage lenders to medical practices and allow patients to make payments after a service.

The AMA, in a lawsuit joined by the American Osteopathic Association and the Medical Society of the District of Columbia, says the paperwork practices would have to file to satisfy the rule is unnecessary.
