5 Legal Risks of Social Media Use

In a Physicians Practice article, Pamela L. Moore outlines five areas of legal risk associated with social media use, according to a presentation given by Barbara Zabawa, JD, and Melinda Giftos, attorneys with Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek at the MGMA 2013 Annual Conference.

The five legal risk areas are:

 

1. Damage to reputation and compliance with Federal Trade Commission guidelines for advertising.
2. HIPAA violations.
3. Loss of patient data.
4. Policies that govern social media use by employees in the workplace that need to be compliance with National Labor Relations Act.  
5. Malpractice liability.
