Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. John Ratliff of Stanford University School of Medicine

John Ratliff, MD, is a neurosurgeon with an interest in complex spinal surgery. Dr. Ratliff is an associate professor of neurosurgery at the Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine. He also serves as vice chair of operations and development at the department of neurosurgery at Stanford. He previously served as an associate professor at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Dr. Ratliff is a member of the North American Spine Society, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He is also involved with the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery. In 2010, she received the Robert Florin, MD Award for Excellence in Research from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

 

Dr. Ratliff is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and his clinical interests include spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, degenerative scoliosis, spinal cord injuries, spine trauma and fractures, peripheral nerve trauma, peripheral nerve tumors, brachial plexus trauma, spine and spinal cord tumors, spinal instability and chiari malformations. He also focuses on minimally invasive spine surgery and revision spinal surgeries.

 

Dr. Ratliff earned his medical degree at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his residency in neurological surgery at Louisiana State University. He has also completed a clinical research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health and a spine surgery fellowship at New York University in New York City.
