8 Statistics on Physicians’ Plans for the Next 5 Years

In the next five years, a little more than half of physicians plan on continuing to work as they do now, according to “Great American Physician Survey,” by Physicians Practice.

The survey includes responses from 927 physicians.

 

In the next five years, respondents plan to do the following:

 

•    Continue practicing as I do now — 57.4 percent
•    Retire — 13 percent
•    Merge with other private practices — 3.7 percent
•    Go into solo practice — 3.7 percent
•    Close my practice — 3.5 percent
•    Leave my practice to become hospital-employed — 3.2 percent
•    Join an accountable care organization — 2 percent
•    Other — 13.5 percent
