Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Plas James of Atlanta Spine Institute

Plas T. James, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon practicing at Atlanta Spine Institute. He previously served as chief of orthopedics at West Paces Medical Center in Atlanta. He has also served on the orthopedic faculty at Houston-based Baylor College of Medicine Spine Fellowship Teaching Program.  His hospital affiliations include Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Atlanta Medical Center and Southern Regional Hospital in Riverdale, Ga.

Dr. James is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Board of Spine Surgery. His clinical interests include back problems, back injuries, cervical spine injuries, low back pain and lumbar microdiscectomy.

Dr. James previously served as team physician for the National Hockey League’s Atlanta Thrashers and the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons. Dr. James continues to serve as the orthopedic spine consult for the Atlanta Falcons.

Dr. James earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He has also completed a combined neurosurgical and orthopedic spine fellowship program at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
