Researchers polled 3,480 U.S. physicians from across 25 specialty areas for the survey.
When asked how far their lawsuit progressed, respondents reported the following:
• Went to depositions and then was settled — 27 percent
• Went to depositions and then was dismissed — 18 percent
• Went to trial and verdict was rendered — 16 percent
• Dismissed prior to depositions — 13 percent
• Dismissed within the first few months — 11 percent
• Other — 10 percent
• Went to trial and case was settled before verdict — 5 percent
