Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Jack Zigler of Texas Back institute

Jack E. Zigler, MD, is the medical director of Plano-based Texas Back Institute. He is also the co-director of the spine fellowship program at the institute and has previously been a clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at University of California Irvine School of Medicine. During his career, he has been president of the American Spinal Injury Association and Federation of Spine Associations. He has also led committees with the Cervical Spine Research Society and North American Spine Society.

Dr. Zigler is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. His clinical interests include cervical spine diseases, degenerative spine, spinal cord injuries, spinal disorders, spinal fractures and spinal fusion. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

“There is much more grey in spine surgery [than in other specialties].” said Dr. Zigler in a Becker’s Spine Review article. “In that grey band lies a practice’s culture. Challenges are healthy. Tread the line between conservative and aggressive treatment.”

Dr. Zigler earned his medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He has completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, and he has completed a spine surgery fellowship at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland.
