In 2012:
• Overall, orthopedic surgeons earned an average of $405,000.
• Male orthopedic surgeons earned an average of $403,000.
• Female orthopedic surgeons earned an average of $422,000.
The predominant trend, regardless of specialty, currently shows that male physicians earn 30 percent more than female physicians. The results of the report are due to the fact that 91 percent of the responding orthopedic surgeons were male and only 9 percent were female.
