According to Medscape’s Best and Worst Places to Practice: 2013 report 69 percent of physicians value a comfortable and enjoyable living environment most when considering where to practice.

Additional leading factors include:

 

•    Family and friends living nearby (45 percent)
•    Relative value of their specialty (39 percent)
•    Climate and temperature (34 percent)
•    Job opportunities (31 percent)
•    Malpractice claims and premiums

 

Other important factors listed in the report include physician density, insurance mix, competition, medical board activity, tax burden and the cost of living.
