This is around the same percentage as the orthopedists who reported discussing costs regularly with patients last year. Another 44 percent said they would occasionally discuss costs if the patients brought up the subject. By contrast, 30 percent of all physicians discuss cost of treatment with patients and another 38 percent would discuss it if the patient brought it up.
However, 8 percent of orthopedists said they don’t discuss costs with patients because they are unaware of how much their treatment costs. Five percent don’t bring up costs because they feel it’s not appropriate.
