The American Association of Neurological Surgeons has announced its new officer appointments. William Couldwell, MD, PhD, FAANS, has been named the AANS president. Robert Harbaugh, MD, FAANS, FACS, is president-elect, Gary Bloomgarden, MD, FAANS, FACS, is vice-president,  Alex Valadka, MD, FAANS, FACS, is treasurer and Frederick Boop, MD, FAANS, FACS, is secretary.

The International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery has named Luiz Pimenta, MD, its president.

At ISASS13, the paper sponsored by Hansen Yuan, MD, and his wife was granted the Leon Wiltse Award for Best Overall Paper. The paper sponsored by Tom Errico, MD, earned the Kostuik Innovation Award.
