The 12-hour surgery was performed at Johns Hopkins and led by W.P. Andrew Lee, MD, director of the department of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Patrick Basile, MD, Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Mr. Marrocco lost both arms and legs during a roadside bomb explosion in 2009 and he became the seventh patient to receive a successful bilateral transplant surgery in the United States five weeks ago.
