Sports Medicine Society Publishes Concussion Position Statement

The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine’s Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine has published a position statement on sports-related concussions.

The position statement includes information about the risk factors and diagnosis of concussions during sports. The statement also outlines sideline evaluation and management of concussions, and recommends no same-day return to play for athletes who incur concussions.

The statement also touches on neuropsychological testing, although “most concussions can be managed appropriately without the use of neuropsychological testing,” according to the report.
