NuVasive grows globally, opens European Center of Excellence

Spinal Tech

NuVasive opened the European Center of Excellence in Amsterdam, the latest in a string of moves to expand its international presence.

The company established an International Operation Centre in Waterford, Ireland, although NuVasive hasn't announced plans for inversion yet. Fellow medtech company Medtronic planned to move company headquarters to Ireland earlier this year after acquiring Ireland-based Covidien as part of a tax inversion strategy, but after criticism from the federal government and new proposed regulations from the Treasury Department, the company may seek a different strategy.

In the global spine market, NuVasive is the third largest player with a spine portfolio of more than 90 unique products.

Recently, NuVasive also named former Stryker divisional leader Phil Bradshaw the managing director of United Kingdome operations and expanded their geographic footprint in Poland and Spain. This week, the company is offering an educational workshop at EuroSpine addressing minimally invasive spine procedures.

NuVasive is known for the eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion procedure, which will also be highlighted at EuroSpine. The procedure treats a variety of pathologies.
