San Francisco Giants team physicians Larry Oloff, MD, Ken Akizuki, MD, were joined by Mike Dillingham, MD, to repair three torn ligaments in Giants catcher Buster Posey's left ankle, according to an MLB report.
The surgery required the surgeons to insert two screws into Mr. Posey's leg, who stands to receive ankle joint scopes in the future to resect scar tissue if it builds in the joint. He will have a second surgery in eight to 10 weeks to remove the screws and he will spend about three months on crutches.
Mr. Posey incurred the injuries during a collision at the plate. The physicians expect him to make a full recovery for next season.
