A survey of approximately 150 NFL players examined chemical painkiller use throughout the league, Alternet reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. Approximately 91 percent of current/former NFL players said they had taken opiate-based painkillers like oxycodone, hydrocodone and propoxyphene for pain.

2. Forty-five percent of respondents said team physicians, staff members and teammates pressured them into using chemical painkillers.

3. An unspecified number admitted to using chemical painkillers after a physician introduced them to the drugs.

4. Approximately 70 percent of NFL players had concerns about becoming overly dependent on opioids.

BudTrader.com, an online medical marijuana marketplace, conducted the survey. Former NFL player Marvin Washington convinced CEO Brad McLaughlin to conduct the survey. Mr. Washington advocates for a safer form of pain management.
