Chicago White Sox name Dr. Nikhil Verma head team physician: 5 observations

Nikhil N. Verma, MD, of Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush has been named the Chicago White Sox's head team physician.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Dr. Verma is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician who serves as professor and director of sports medicine for Rush University Medical Center's department of orthopedic surgery.

 

2. Dr. Verma takes over for Charles Bush-Joseph, MD, who stepped down from head team physician role after 13 years to assume the roles of incoming president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and board member of Rush Health.

 

3. Most of Dr. Verma's work focuses on shoulder, elbow and knee conditions.

 

4. He has previously served as a team physician for the White Sox, Chicago Bulls and other teams in the Chicago area.

 

5. Dr. Verma is associate editor of the Arthroscopy Journal and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Knee Surgery.
