The sports medicine section composed 7.8 percent of the Orthopaedic In-Training Examination from 2005 to 2009, according to a study published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine.
Researchers analyzed all OITE sports medicine questions between 2005 and 2009 to learn more about resident performance in sports medicine. The mean resident performance on the entire OITE and sports medicine section improved during each year of training.
Imaging modalities constituted 27.4 percent and treatment modalities involved 36.8 percent of the OITE sports medicine section questions. Most treatment questions related to ligament reconstruction or rehabilitation. Recall-type questions were most common although mean resident performance was minimally affected by the type of taxonomy question.
