Western Kentucky University Sports Medicine Complex tabled — 4 key notes

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Bowling Green-based Western Kentucky University is tabling its proposed sports medicine complex after no provider met all the requirements of a request for proposal.

Here's what you need to know.

1. The university first announced the center in partnership with Bowling Green, Ky.-based The Medical Center.

Bowling Green-based Western Kentucky Orthopaedic & Neurosurgical Associates filed two complaints with its state legislature over a provision in the agreement that made The Medical Center the university's recommended provider. The university started the RFP process in response to the filings.

2. The university is considering funding the sports complex through private support "or other means."

3. The university said it would explore options to lease its health clinic space. WKONA's Graves Gilbert Clinic will continue operating the on-campus clinic through Dec. 16, 2016. The university claims it is not receiving fair market value.

4. The Medical Center will continue as WKU Athletics' sports medicine provider.
