Cincinnati-based Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and the Christ Hospital Health Network teamed up to earn the provider contract for Lakota schools in Butler County, the city's second largest school district, the Cincinnati Business Courier reports.
Here's what you need to know.
1. Beacon will begin providing services in mid-November replacing Dayton, Ohio-based Premier Health.
2. Both health organizations will have advertisements throughout the district, and students will be able to shadow physicians from either health system as part of the agreement.
The opportunity for student engagement was of particular interest to Beacon CEO Andy Blankemeyer. He said to the Business Courier "People interested in becoming a doctor could come here and learn about the medical side of the business side. It provides an eye-opening experience for the schools."
3. Beacon's Timothy Kremchek, MD, will serve as medical director for Lakota West High School. Beacon's Peter Cha, MD, will be medical director for Lakota East High School. The two districts serve just under 5,000 students.
4. Dr. Kremchek and Dr. Cha will be at all home and away football games with athletic trainers staffing other sports.
5. The district contract was sought after by many other health organizations to provide this service.
