James R. Andrews, MD, performed knee surgery on California Oakland A's infielder Eric Sogard, according to ESPN.

1. Dr. Andrews operated on Mr. Sogard's left knee.
2. Dr. Andrews performed a patellar tendon debridement procedure.
3. Dr. Andrews earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his residency at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed two sports medicine fellowships at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville and the University of Lyon in France.
4. Dr. Andrews is one of the founding members of the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Ala., and co-founder of the American Sports Medicine Institute, where he also serves as chairman of the board and medical director.
5. Dr. Andrews is president and chairman of the board of the Andrews Research and Education Foundation, an organization dedicated to prevention, education and research at the Andrews Institute.
