Orthopedic Sports Medicine

To promote athlete health and safety, the American College of Sports Medicine formed a strategic alliance with PRIVIT, provider of cloud-based technology for the collection, distribution, and analysis of personal health information.

Here are seven facts:

1. ACSM and PRIVIT are launching ACSM PREP Profile, an online pre-participation physical evaluation tool aimed to protect the health and safety of athletes.

2. PREP Profile centers on four areas of athlete safety: PROTECT, RESPOND, EVALUATE AND PERFORM.

3. The PROTECT feature automates the collection and management of health history information.

4. In the RESPOND feature, authorized personnel give users immediate access to athletes' health information in case of a game emergency.

5. EVALUATE helps professionals assess an individual's health before they participate in a sport.

6. PERFORM aggregates de-identified data about athletes that establishes benchmarks and improves programs for optimal performance.

7. ACSM has more than 50,000 international, national and regional members, making it the largest sports medicine and exercise organization in the world.
