Rush University Medical Center names Dr. Nikhil Verma director of sports medicine research: 5 key notes

Nikhil Verma, MD, was named professor and director of sports medicine research for the department of orthopedic surgery at Rush University Medical Center.

Here are five key notes on Dr. Verma:

 

1. He has a special interest in arthroscopic reconstructive shoulder techniques, shoulder replacement, knee ligament reconstruction and articular cartilage reconstruction and meniscal repair. He performs more than 500 procedures per year.

 

2. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Verman is associate editor of the Arthroscopy Journal and on the editorial board for the Journal of Knee Surgery.

 

3. Dr. Verma is a team physician for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls as well as Nazareth Academy. He is involved in research projects on biomechanics and clinical outcomes, and recently received funding for his work from Major League Baseball.

 

4. He has been voted among the top 10 percent to 15 percent of Top Doctors in America by U.S. News & World Report and Castle Connolly.

 

5. Dr. Verma earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed his residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. He underwent a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder service at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
