Over 2M high school athletes complete concussion awareness course — 5 things to know

More than 2 million high school athletes completed The National Federation of State High School Associations' concussion course before the 2015 high school season, according to az central.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Indianapolis-based NFHS regulates the playing rules for 16 boys and girls sports for 18,500 high schools throughout the United States.

 

2. In 2010, NFHS launched its online concussion course and required all high school athletes to take the course.

 

3. The Arizona Interscholastic Association required all high school athletes in the state to complete the NFHS concussion course to be eligible to participate in a sport.

 

4. The course instructs athletes on the symptoms of a concussion as well as what to do after suffering a concussion.

 

5. Every year, nearly 300,000 high school athletes sustain sports-related head injuries in the United State, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to az central.
