Renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dan Adair dies — 5 notes

Dan Adair, MD, passed away unexpectedly this week from a heart attack, according to The State Journal-Register.

Here are five notes on Dr. Adair.

 

1. Dr. Adair was a pioneer in sports medicine and founded numerous programs that made participation in high school and college sports safer for athletes.

 

2. He practiced medicine in Springfield, Ill., for more than 30 years.

 

3. Dr. Adair founded sports medicine programs at HSHS St. John's Hospital and Memorial Medical Center, both located in Springfield.

 

4. As a member of Springfield Clinic Sports Medicine and co-medical director of SportsCare, Dr. Adair worked with providers and sports trainers who care for athletes.

 

5. He was one of Springfield Clinic's three orthopedic surgeons when he joined the practice in 1984. Dr. Adair played a crucial role in expanding the clinic's orthopedic group. The clinic now has 20 surgical and nonsurgical orthopedic specialists.
