Lenox Hill hospital's sports medicine institute to get $5.9M upgrade: 5 key notes

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

The Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City will move to a newly renovated location in the Upper East Side, according to Crain's New York Business.

Here are five things to know:

1. The North Shore-LIJ Health System, parent of Lenox Hill hospital, spent $5.9 million on the renovation, which should be finished in February 2016.

2. The new location's higher ceilings will provide a better setting for biomechanical research, including testing throwing motions.

3. Cameras positioned on the 12-foot ceilings will provide better views of patients' sessions.

4. The space will be large enough for physical therapists and researchers to work simultaneously.

5. Founded by late James Nicholas, MD, the sports medicine institute has operated for more than 40 years.
