Marc Philippon, MD, will perform hip surgery on Oakland A's Ike Davis, according to a SF Gate report.
Here are five things to know:
1. The surgery will end Mr. Davis' season, as the recovery period for hip surgery can be anywhere between two months and six months.
2. Mr. Davis tore his left hip labrum.
3. Dr. Philippon is the managing partner, sports medicine/hip disorders atThe Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., and co-chairman and board member of the Steadman Philippon Research Institute.
4. He is a master instructor with the Arthroscopy Association of North America and a founding member of the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy.
5. Dr. Philippon has treated nearly 1,000 professional and Olympic athletes.
