Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Mayo Clinic Square has officially opened in downtown Minneapolis. The building marks the partnership of Mayo Clinic, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Minnesota Lynx.

Here are five key points:

1. The two teams will share the 107,000-square-foot space, which houses two basketball courts, new trialing equipment and a sports medicine center with physicians and treatment equipment, reports The San Diego Union-Tribune.

2. The new facility is the result of a $25 million joint venture between the franchises and Mayo Clinic, according to the report.

3. The building, owned by Provident Real Estate Ventures, formerly had an image as a failed property known as Block E.

4. The project was initially announced last February and the sports medicine clinic opened in October.

5. NBA commissioner Adam Silver said about the new facility: "Frankly, I've never seen anything like this… This is truly the gold standard," according to NBA.com.
