HSS to honor Dr. David Helfet with Lifetime Achievement Award : 5 things to know

Hospital for Special Surgery will present David L. Helfet, MD, director of orthopedic trauma service, with the Lifetime Achievement Award at their annual tribute dinner.

Here are five things to know about the honor:

 

1. Dr. Helfet is also a professor of orthopedic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City and the director of the orthopedic trauma service at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

 

2. Dr. Helfet has served as president of the National Orthopaedic Trauma Association, as well as served on numerous boards for professional orthopedic and trauma societies.

 

3. He is also the designated orthopedic trauma specialist for the Fire Department of New York, New York Police Department and New York State Police.

 

4. Dr. Helfet received his medical degree at the University of Cape Town Medical School in South Africa and completed fellowships at University of Bern in Switzerland and University of California Los Angeles.

 

5. The same evening Dr. Helfet will receive his Lifetime Achievement Award, HSS will also honor Brian L. Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation.

Albert, MD, surgeon-in-chief and medical director at HSS "He has shown incredible leadership in expanding our orthopedic trauma service and raising its awareness internationally. The hospital is very proud of all of his accomplishments and is honored to present him with the Lifetime Achievement Award."
