Dodgers starting pitcher tears UCL

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Brandon McCarthy, a Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher, will likely need Tommy John surgery and will be out of action for the next 12 to 15 months following an MRI which confirmed a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, reports The Orange County Register.

Mr. McCarthy was signed by the Dodgers as a bit of a gamble, as the report also notes the 31-year-old pitcher has suffered shoulder problems in the past.
