According to The Aspen Times,the Aspen Sports Summit included lectures and notes from CEOs and physicians on issues in health, fitness and sports medicine. Here are six key notes from Kevin LaFierriere, CEO of Fitness Professionals:

  • Despite perceived obsessions with health in North America, only 17 percent of people use a membership at a health club.
  • 35 percent of North American who join a health club will never return to the establishment again.
  • Some fear going to a fitness club because of the social component and will feel worse about themselves.
  • The era of big-box gyms is over as national chains drop prices.
  • Smaller fitness centers are rising, as they focus on camaraderie and simplicity.
  • CrossFit is a prime example of the direction of the industry.
